Safe Arrival

Well, I have safely arrived in La Ceiba, Honduras. The past few days have been quite exciting and a time of meeting with old friends and making new ones. I had a pretty uneventful time on the two planes it took me to get to Honduras. I landed in San Pedro Sula on Saturday around 11:45am. I met up with Merphran from Iglesia Gran Comision and a few other people from around the country who were flying in on the same day. These other people are here to start making plans to build some operating rooms at the clinic. It was exciting to be around them and hear all their ideas. Once we all arrived, we headed out to "Power Chicken" to get some lunch. For those of you who have never been, Power Chicken, though seemingly unassuming in appearance, serves up some of the tastiest and most plentiful food I've tasted in Honduras. It was as good this time around as it was last time. We had our choice of fried rice, pork, chicken, ribs, beef, plantains, yuca, and corn tortillas. Once we were thoroughly full we headed out to a private hospital in San Pedro Sula to take a look at how their operating rooms are set up. This hospital is quite nice, especially compared to some of the public ones in the area. We all got to put on full scrubs, complete with the little shoe booties, face mask, and shower cap thing. It was pretty cool. Having never seen an OR myself, I was pretty intrigued by the whole scene. By the time we finished up at the hospital, it was getting dark, so we stayed in a sweet hotel in San Pedro Sula for the evening. The next morning left pretty early and started our journey to La Ceiba. Driving in Honduras is quite the adventure, but you learn to trust your driver and just not look out the window to see what is going on too much. We arrived safely in La Ceiba and I headed to the Rosales house where I'll be staying for the next few months. I caught up with my sisters Sandy and Alejandra and my brother Guillermo and unpacked. After resting for a bit my host parents came home and I got to catch up with them as well. Later that evening we went to church at IGC's second location downtown. This was my first time there and it as awesome! It was everything I remember it being. The worship was upbeat, heartfelt, and simply awesome. The message was equally as awesome all equaling out to an awesome evening. I woke up this morning to the sounds of chickens crowing, dogs barking, children screaming, and buses honking. Delightful. I spent my morning doing some reading and then planning out a timeline for this program I am working on. In the afternoon I went up the hill to the church to hang out with the kids in the CNI program. They have grown up so much! It was great to see their faces again. Now I am going to get ready for dinner and get settled in for the evening. Thank you everyone for your encouragement and prayers!
